One of my favorite types of photography is couple photoshoots—probably because, deep down, I’m a hopeless romantic. I want to believe in love, no matter what. There’s something magical about capturing two people in their own little world, wrapped in emotions, laughter, and genuine moments.
I know that real life isn’t like Instagram photos or even what we see with our own eyes. But during every couple photoshoot, I try to capture something intangible between two people—something that is uniquely theirs. I genuinely strive to inspire my couples to be themselves, to express their emotions naturally, without forced poses. When they do, I can capture those raw, beautiful moments—the ones that are truly about them and no one else.

Choosing the Perfect Location for a Couple Photoshoot
For a couple photoshoot, it’s best to choose a place where you feel at ease. The location plays a huge role in setting the mood for the session, so I always encourage couples to pick a spot that holds meaning for them.
Ruby and James love the sea, so we chose the stunning Portmuck Beach for their couple photoshoot. I adore this picturesque spot, with its dramatic cliffs, unique descent to the water, and colorful pebbles along the shore. The scenery is breathtaking, and the sound of the waves creates a soothing, romantic atmosphere. I’ve photographed many couples here, but each time, the story is different. Every couple brings their own energy and love story, making each session truly unique.

The Experience of a Couple Photoshoot
A couple photoshoot is more than just pictures—it’s a fun experience, a chance to connect and create lasting memories. Some couples may feel a little nervous in front of the camera, but that’s completely natural! The first 30 minutes are usually spent easing into the session, getting comfortable, and finding a rhythm. But once couples let go and start having fun, the most beautiful and natural moments unfold.
One of the things I love about outdoor couple photoshoots, especially at the coast, is the natural elements that add movement and life to the images. The coastal wind is almost always present, and I love how it plays with hair, adds movement to clothes, and creates a dreamy, artistic feel.

How Long Should a Couple Photoshoot Be?
From my experience, capturing genuine and heartfelt photos takes time. That’s why I find that 1.5 to 2 hours is the ideal duration for a couple photoshoot—it allows enough time to ease into the experience and truly enjoy it.
I also love choosing locations with at least two different backdrops. This not only adds variety to the photos but also gives the couple something to explore and enjoy. For me as a couple photographer, it keeps the session dynamic and exciting, resulting in a beautifully diverse collection of images. Changing locations or simply moving around within the same spot gives the session a more storytelling feel, allowing for a mix of intimate, playful, and scenic shots.

What to Wear for a Couple Photoshoot?
Outfits play a big role in how your photos will turn out. Ruby and James did a fantastic job choosing their outfits for their couple photoshoot. They opted for monochrome, natural tones, which always look stunning in outdoor settings.
Soft, earthy colors like white, black, brown, and green blend beautifully with nature, creating a timeless and effortless look. Neutral tones help keep the focus on the couple and their emotions, making the photos feel even more authentic and harmonious. I always recommend avoiding overly bright or neon colors, as they can distract from the natural beauty of the setting and the connection between the couple.

Final Thoughts
A couple photoshoot is more than just a set of images—it’s an opportunity to celebrate love, to be present in the moment, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you choose a beach, a forest, or the city streets, the most important thing is to be yourself and enjoy the experience.
If you're thinking about booking a couple photoshoot, I’d love to hear your ideas and help you choose the perfect location. Let’s create something beautiful together!
